about
Coochiemudlo is an island in Moreton Bay, Queensland that I spent time pottering about on with Pelicans and a Guitar and thought that a name like that deserved to be in a song. I think it's sometimes important to be able to pretend to be somewhere else, so I often pop back there, particularly if I'm having a bath and thinking about the lake full of birds and the whispering trees...
lyrics
English Bathtub Sea
I made an island with a long stretch of sand -
Shaped it with my hands,
Pulled it from the land at the edge of the sea.
So fly with me, fly with me -
So fly with me, fly with me -
To my Coochiemudlo Island in my English bathtub sea.
There on my island is a lake that's filled with birds,
Whispers from the trees, those silver blue-gum leaves
At the edge of the sea.
So fly with me, fly with me -
Fly with me, fly with me
To my Coochiemudlo Island in my English bathtub sea.
I feel the Cornish rain that settles on my skin.
Can't tell where clouds begin
As the cold comes rolling in at the edge of the sea.
So fly with me, fly with me -
So fly with me, fly with me -
To my Coochiemudlo Island in my English bathtub sea.
On a dark day filled with worry I can take myself out there.
Where I closed my eyes that sunny day and promised to return...
And I shared a day with the Pelicans...
I love my England and her green fields and her rain.
The people who complain about the weather every day -
She convinces me to stay.
But fly with me,
Fly with me,
Fly with me,
Fly with me
To my Coochiemudlo Island in my English bathtub sea.
